Story of the Month: The Day I Fell In Love

This story was written by Willie, an upstanding young gentleman from Jenner Elementary. We couldn’t resist putting this on the blog, both for its simple wisdom, and for its sheer sweetness. Enjoy!

The Day I Fell In Love
By Willie

I met this girl at Jenner. She was nice, pretty, and wearing Jenner school clothes in white and blue. She was light-skinned and her hair was in short braids. She was in my grade. So, I started to talk to her and what I said made her smile. I asked her to hang out, but she said, “I have to go home and do my chores. But I can go with you on Friday.” It made me happy because I would have time to get to know her. When Friday came, we met outside, walked around, and since I got my money on Friday, I took her to dinner at McDonald’s. We had burgers, fries, and Coke. I walked her home because it was dark, and at the door she said, “I had a nice time. “ I asked her to go out next Friday, and she smiled as she said, “Yes. “ I was happy all week, looking forward to that next Friday.
When Friday came, we met up at school. I chased her when we played on the playground. We were just messing around. Then, she told me she changed her mind and had to go home. That made me sad. I saw her by my house the next day and we decided to break up. We also started being friends again. I didn’t feel so bad because my dad said, “There are a lot of fishes in the sea.” I found out my dad was right.

Willie is a terrific writer. I love the way he is able to name his feelings. The very best part of the story is that he and the girl were able to be friends after the more romantic part didn’t work out. Willie is a winner! I look forward to more of his stories.
